Alas, poor Rufus. Yes, he's really likes to be control of things, which makes his situation particularly... stressful. ::evil grin::

Fortunately, Sephiroth and Cloud are around to give him advice and training, which he's really going to need.

Well, in COI Redux, Rufus's ONE of those "Chosen by the Planet"... which isn't necessarily a good thing. Because, frankly, the Planet can be one hell of a demanding master/mistress. Unfortunately, unlike Sephiroth and Cloud, Rufus is probably going to get the brunt of it.

Rufus: "Talking to the Planet isn't the problem. Anyone can claim to do that. My problem is that the Planet is talking back! ::gritted teeth:: And it won't. Shut. Up."

It's a good thing I have my fic characters to torture. Otherwise, I would be out looking for puppies to kick. ::eyebrow twitch::

Alas, indeed.

But watching him suffer is so amazing.

You know, I have this strange, sneaking feeling that he will not be thanking them much, because Seph and Cloud both seem to come from the school of hard knocks, either learn it and learn it and adapt fast, or get out of the pool. Figure it out, sort of thing.

Poor bastard, she is a fickle mistress. She'll help you out, but the migraines suck. Maybe they can get him some internal earplugs or something.

As Aerith quietly snickers in the afterlife.

Well, you're partially right. The problem with Sephiroth is that he's SO good that he's probably not a good trainer because it's difficult for him to make allowances for less skilled people. But Sephiroth will give Rufus some unexpected, but much needed help of a very special sort. ^_-

Cloud... well, let's face it. Cloud's social and communication skills are not so hot. He will be sympathetic with Rufus -- he knows what it's like to cope with a sudden influx of new abilities and enhanced senses, etc. Unfortunately, he's going to have problems expressing that sympathy adequately.

Combat-wise, I see Rufus being trained mostly by Vincent, mainly because Rufus is a firearms-oriented person (like Yazoo), not melee-oriented like Cloud or Sephiroth. ::cough:: Dual-wielded pistols a la Dante from Devil May Cry ::cough:: And Vincent probably knows quite a bit about controlling the 'other' aspects of one's nature.

However, don't forget that Zack is definitely going to be in the picture. And given his personality and his skill, Zack is about as good of a trainer and mentor as one can possibly hope for. However, Cloud manifesting Zack-ish behavior is going to be unnerving as hell for a variety of reasons, especially as the others learn more about Project S2 and what was done to Cloud. That's even before they find out about the Planet's meddling with Cloud and Zack. ::evil cackle::

Yeah. Poor Seph has the genius thing going on. "But you just do it."

And everyone else boggles, and normally that's when Zack steps in and translates for the rest of humanity because dammit Seph, not everyone knows how to do that. Accounts need to be made for the norms who weren't raised eating and breathing this shit....

And Cloud....lol social. I'm sure he'll be sympathetic and everything....I just...Cloud and social. The two words give each other hives. He'll try, and give the boy points for that because not everyone would. I mean, she's going to keep Rufus for how long, vs the FIVE years she spent stripping Cloud of everything?

Vincent on the other hand, I can see Yodaing at him. Probably not the most sympathetic or 'oh, let's talk about your feelings.' but he'll get the job done and Rufus will be left knowing what his ass is doing. *glees a the mental image*

And yeah, I think Zack out of all of them would have the most BALANCED approach to dealing with Rufus, which will really just freak everyone except MAYBE Seph out. Since lol possessing their friend.

And what is this about the Planet now? Did she pull a two-for-one special with them? "He's going to die, BUT I NEED HIM, You, blondie, you have no will of your own, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"

Well, it's not a matter of how long each spent in Montessi's custody -- 4 years for Cloud versus a much shorter time for Rufus -- but Cloud knows acutely the trauma of having to cope with a body and mind that one can't fully control.

You don't know the half of it. ::sinister background music::

Hey, if you've got this high spec, terrifically customized meatsuit lying around, it's a waste not to put someone more useful (in the Planet's view) in it, right? ::diabolical smirk:: As you might imagine, Zack and Aerith are NOT going to be happy about the Planet's assessment of Cloud's value as a person.

Although, to be honest, it's not that the Planet thinks that Cloud is worthless per se, but rather that Cloud has serious mental and emotional weaknesses that need to be 'fixed' and it's using Zack to do that.

Zack will have his own share of angst to deal with, because he's stuck in Cloud's head in multiple ways (through no fault of his own) and Cloud has been too well conditioned by Montessi to resist Zack's mental influence in any way. Zack is naturally going to try his very best to stay out of Cloud's way -- the prospect of being a bodythief or puppetmaster would be absolutely horrifying to Zack -- but it definitely won't be easy when Cloud is so very susceptible. ^_-

fff. I'd forgotten how much I adore you.

True, though it's more a matter of Cloud being able to make those connections, though he's already had practice with Vincent, so he's a leg up. Hopefully everything will go...well, 'well' isn't the word I'm looking for.

mind blowingly awesome with lots of lol trauma?

...interestingly?

Oh yes, I can only imagine there will be lots of angry. And lots of Ghostly Aerith looming, making sure Zack behaves himself.

And yeah, I imagine controlling Cloud would give him hives and panic attacks. Because seriously, that's his FRIEND. You don't DO that to your friends!
