So far Rude (and some of the additional Turks), Tifa, Barret, and Denzel are in the 'remain human' category.

What about Marlene then?

I haven't decided for certain, but I'm tending to feral. She does seem quite sensitive, sensing Aeris' presence and things like that. ^_^

Good point. But what pack will she be part of? Will she be adopted into the OT4 pack as a future breeder for instance, or gather her own pack of OCs?

She would definitely start off with the OT4 pack because she's so young -- she's just a cub, really. Depending on how strong she eventually becomes as a feral, she might stay with them (definitely safer) or cultivate her own sub-pack (which would still owe allegience to the OT4).

I strongly suspect that Denzel will end up as her pet. ^_-

Well, it makes sense that Aeris and Cloud would be protective of her. Imagine how much that would bother Barret though, losing his daughter when he stays human. Unless he petitions to be taken into the OT4 pack as a pet. I do like the idea of Denzel as Marlene's pet, except I wonder how Tifa will react to that, and I suppose Marlene could end up 'pairing' with the children of the OT4, especially if Aeris ends up giving birth to sons.

Unfortunately, I don't see that happening, at least not for a long while. Barret is stubborn and broody, so I can see him sticking with the human resistance, obsessed with 'saving' his little girl. All with the best intentions, of course.

Tifa would probably be extremely upset with the whole situation. In a way, the situation with Marlene will probably be more upsetting to her than when Cloud goes feral, because with Cloud (and all the weirdness and trauma in his life), this sort of problem isn't exactly a total and utter surprise. One might even say that it's almost par for the course.

On the other hand, to see poor innocent, helpless sweet Marlene being 'corrupted' like that will make Tifa even more adamantly opposed to the ferals, partially out of guilt over her perceived failing to save Cloud from the 'dark side' and partially out of maternalistic impulses. ::shrug::

I can see Tifa, like Barret, fanatically digging in her heels and fight with the increasingly desperate human resistance for as long as she possibly can.

Remember, Barret and Tifa are original members of AVALANCHE (the original game incarnation), so we know that they tend to these sorts of idealistic, good-us-against-evil-them type of crusades.

and I suppose Marlene could end up 'pairing' with the children of the OT4, especially if Aeris ends up giving birth to sons.

Heh. We'll see. ^_-

And of course Barret won't get that a) Marlene doesn't need saving and b) even if she did it wouldn't be possible. I hadn't thought about how much worse having Marlene change would be for Tifa than having Cloud change, but yeah, that fits and you're right about how she'd react. And yeah, they do tend to idealistic crusades, even when they don't get the full picture.

Tifa (and Barret and various factions of the human resistance) will probably convince themselves that whatever affecting Marlene and others is mostly the fault of an external malevolent influence (e.g., like what happened with the children in AC) and that the 'victims' will 'snap out of it' if the human resistance can eliminate the 'source', which they assume is Sephiroth. Poor Seph gets blamed for everything.

Unfortunately, the human resistance are quite wrong, of course. ^_-

What can I say? The human capacity for self-delusion knows no bounds. And of course Seph gets the blame, his screw-up with Jenova was too high profile for him not to. Pity none of them realise how much he has to be...persuaded to give in to the Cetra virus.
