So there's another pack (Yuffie/Reeve/Red) settled. Which makes a total of four, I think? Zack's pack, Cid's pack, Yuffie's pack, and Rufus's pack. That seem like a workable number. ^_-

Especially when they're not necessarily going to be limited to the Planet forever. After all, Cid's a space-freak. In the far future, I can so see his pack setting in a network of space stations and orbital habitats, at least. ::evil cackle::

Now I can see a reasoning why a part of the original population never became Cetra - they weren't compatible. Probably those who are compatible are ones who already have some cetra heritage - the Cetra People back after Jenova first arrived probably bred with normal humans and the virus they carried went dormant, now to act as a doorway for the feral strain to take hold.

::nodnod:: Because their differing special circumstances and heavy exposure to the feral strain of the Cetra virus, Cloud and Cid are going to be the first of the high-level infections. But the others (except for Tifa and Barret) will eventually get it, too.

I think there will also be a small group of individuals who experience an intermediate infection stage -- they go feral, but unlike Cloud and the other high-level infectees, these individuals don't retain their higher cognitive abilities and basically degenerate into highly aggressive bipedal beasts.

The appearance of this substandard-feral group will serve nicely as camouflage for the REAL threat of the uber-predators. ::sinister chuckle::

Funny, the part about the Cetra virus breeding into mainstream humanity and going dormant, reminds me of this one part in the new Guyver anime: how after the Creators left, the activated Zoanoids bred with the "unactivated" humans, and their Zoanoid genes were watered down over the generations to go dormant.

I guess this makes Cloud and the gang the new Zoalords, then. ::evil chuckle::

And I suppose Tifa would be one of the few "pure" humans left, with no Cetra lineage whatsoever, which would make her "immune" to the transformations.

(Although with my mind still heavily on COI, especially with the quasi-racist attitudes of the pre-psycho!Seph Nibelheimers, the thought train DID include some insulting remarks toward Tifa's ancestors, I'm afraid. Though Tifa's a bit more like Sirius Black in this case than Draco Malfoy, to follow the most obvious similar example.)

OMG, you're probably right! O_o

I wouldn't say that she's "pure" human -- at this point, virtually all humans have some Cetra genes. It's just that the feral virus is picky about its host and I'm afraid that Tifa just doesn't cut it. ::snort::

Well, when you put it that way, it's possible that with in-breeding, the Nibelheim population has a lower Cetra gene content than most humans.

Strange that you should make reference to Harry Potter -- there's probably going to be a slight HP in-joke in the next installment of this fic. ^_-
