Oooh! Controlling bitchqueen! And given her cetra abilities, she'd probably whip them into her personal pair of Defenders Of The Planet too - because it's her planet and humans are hurting it!

Writing up an evilish-Aeris is so tempting, damn it!

::hands out a big helping of blame-for-inciting-plotbunnies::

Here you go. Check out the "MASSIVE EDIT / ADDITION" I just added. ^_^;;

Just thinking... One of the basic theories I know about Jenova and about her being a... macrovirus, is that she is driven to infect everything. Now I read a fic written by someone who obviously had read that theory and Jenova's most basic imperative was to take over everything and make it a part of her.

Now going by your edit/addition, what if the Cetra virus had already done this but something it took over (a species) was sentient and basically counter-infected the virus with concience so these people did not want to fulfill the next step of the viral imperative and go looking for somewhere new? This new race of Cetra People decide "No more wandering space, let's just tend this world instead".

But as you say, there's feral side to it they bury by deciding that, and it wakes up in Zack and Cloud and Aeris is not so unwilling to let them wake that side of her as well.

Other thoughts on a couple of others - icedark_elf has said a few times that she believes Jenova's body is a Cetra the Crisis of the Skies virus (Jenova) infected, so somewhere in there, Sephiroth's claim to being a Cetra is not all that untrue - he just needs, in this bunny's case, to have the cetra virus in him stregthened.

And I love the bit about Vincent - though I haven't gotten around to playing it, I know enough about DoC to see some resemblances.

::nodnod:: I've also read something similar regarding Jenova and her drive to assimilate.

Now going by your edit/addition, what if the Cetra virus had already done this but something it took over (a species) was sentient and basically counter-infected the virus with concience so these people did not want to fulfill the next step of the viral imperative and go looking for somewhere new? That's pretty much what I've been thinking, although I was under the impression that the pacifist Cetra still travelled from world to world, instead on preying on them, they were tending those worlds.

I can see Aeris being very disturbed by this dark/feral aspect she sees in Zack and Cloud, and she'd probably even more disturbed because even though it repulses her, it also strongly calls to her at some deep primal level.

Yup, I do think that Sephiroth has a lot of Cetra genetics, which could be one of the reasons he not only survived, but thrived, while other specimens didn't. So in a way, his feralness may have two components -- Jenova's and the Cetra virus's. In Sephiroth's case, there are several options: (1) somehow purge the Jenova cells out of him; (2) strengthen the Cetra virus so it trumps the Jenova cells' influence; and/or (2) somehow modify, infect, or subvert the Jenova cells into following the Cetra virus's genetic agenda and not Jenova's. ^_^

And I love the bit about Vincent - though I haven't gotten around to playing it, I know enough about DoC to see some resemblances.

I hope you realize that if Vincent is a semi-active carrier of the Cetra virus, Cid is the most likely to become infected, since he and Vincent are actively boinking? And Vincent himself would be slower to be overwhelmed by the Cetra virus because he's already used to controlling its manifestations, at least to some degree.

As you might guess, I really, really want to see a draconic-Cid. I vaguely remember reading a terrific fanfic ages ago involving Cid and dragons -- I think it was called "Venus Gospel". ::scratching heads::

Heh, that sounds a bit like a crossover of both versions of Cetra history in fandom!

Hmm... (beware the "hmm...", it's me about to start playing with the bunny again!) I'm suddenly thinking that humanity, as it is, is the uninfected race that the cetra virus gained sentience from. The cetra virus came in, infected part of the population, and settled in nicely - though some of them went off, back into space, obeying part of the viral imperative but not all of it.

Meanwhile, back on Gaea, there is still part of the population that is uninfected and the Cetra People's concience about the whole viral imperative stops them infecting what's left of the human race, letting it live quietly while the Cetra tend the planet.

In comes another space-bourne virus however and the Cetra are fighting to keep their place, only they're losing. They trap the Crisis virus but most of the Cetra People are killed and those left salt into the human population.

Two thousand years down the line, the too-pacific-for-it's-own-good cetra virus is all but gone and only has one live carrier left... and a mako fountain that sustains a pure strain of it. Vincent got injected with the pure strain 30 years ago and manifested monsters. Now, somehow, the strain has got into new carriers and poking by Hojo has woken it...

So Aeris is the carrier of the pacific strain, while the wild strain is in Vincent, Zack and Cloud.

In Sephiroth's case, there are several options: (1) somehow purge the Jenova cells out of him; (2) strengthen the Cetra virus so it trumps the Jenova cells' influence; and/or (3) somehow modify, infect, or subvert the Jenova cells into following the Cetra virus's genetic agenda and not Jenova's. ^_^

Either way, the idea of an internal fight going on in Seph's body (with probably an accompanying halucinatory fight between Jenova and Aeris) is an interesting image.

I hope you realize that if Vincent is a semi-active carrier of the Cetra virus, Cid is the most likely to become infected, since he and Vincent are actively boinking?

Oh lovely! I do like Valenwind!

I vaguely remember reading a terrific fanfic ages ago involving Cid and dragons -- I think it was called "Venus Gospel". ::scratching heads::

I think I saw that one, but I'm not sure if I read it. I was intending to, and I read a couple of other fics by the author - one about Cait Sith being a multiple personality of Reeve's due to seeing his parents murdered when he was a child, and another about Cid regaining memories of a traumatic childhood meanwhile a guy in Midgar is haunted by the ghost of his dead son and Cait Sith camps out in his house, hoping to see the ghost.

I really should go back and read Venus Gospel.

Anyway, I am hugely fond of dragoon/dragon connections myself, my little pet AU, Guardianverse, has that dragoon = "dragon knight" = Knight of Bahamut, and Kain Highwind, due to a lifelong association with Bahamut, becomes a dragon spirit in Bahamut's service, and two worlds later is Neo Bahamut, and the world after that is the defacto leader of the GFs (yes, as in FF8).

Hmm... (beware the "hmm...", it's me about to start playing with the bunny again!)

Apparently it's not a plotbunny any more. According to forgottenlover, it's mutated into a full-blown plot-chocobo. ::scowl:: And you're feeding it Sylkis greens and Zeio nuts, damn it!

Ooooo... I like this idea of two different Cetra strains -- a pacific, nurturing one and an aggressive, predatory one. ^___^

Yup, yup!

I wasn't such a big fan of Cid/Vin (or vice versa) in the beginning, but I've grown to like it. Personally, it works much better for me in text than in pictures (e.g., doujinshi).

Me, too. ::starts rummaging around her files::

::perks up multiple pairs of ears:: Hm, I should really go check this out. ^_^

Yeah Doujinshi often does all the things that make discerning fanfic readers cringe - like the whole seme/uke dynamic is all too common. Goodfic - at least goodfic in the western fandom - try to actually make the characters real, instead of stereotypes.

There's not much of it, and most of what exists outside my head is more focused on Griever than the other GFs (the core principal of Guardianverse is that Griever is a future version of Squall who hitches a ride back in time in Squall's head and is the eventual cause of Squall becoming a GF). A great deal of the backstories of the other GFs are still stuck in my head because I have trouble coming up with the words to frame the ideas. That's probably the biggest reason I don't write much - I have plenty of ideas but getting them down into an actual story is dreadfully hard.

Some doujinshi are great, but too many make the uke (especially in Cloud's case) so wimpy, weepy, and/or literally childish, it makes my teeth hurt.

Alas, I know that feeling. There's so much COI-verse floating around in my head, it's not funny. And now THIS plot... thingie is staking a claim to its own patch of territory. "Construction Beginning Soon!!!"

Oh don't I know that feeling! XD The Griever-bunny - the plotbunny behind Guardianverse - has staked quite an expansive plot in my head and gladly pounces on anything pretty it can turn it's way. A few weeks ago I was trying to describe a couple of figures from a dream in terms of their looks but the Griever-bunny pounced that and decided the GFs had to take a trip to Ivalice just so Griever had the chance to seduce Basch, and then there's the whole Kain/Cloud relationship which is ultimately the lion-bunny's fault too, since it also pounced on my FF4 threesome - Kain/Cecil/Rosa - and decided Cloud is kind-of Cecil's reincarnation.
