...I just think I fell in love with your universe all over again.

Hurrah!

One of the things I never really liked about COI is how /weak/ Cloud is. I like to think everyone has some strength of some sort. Here Cloud has some strength of his own, even if its just a bit. *loves*

Well, trooper-Cloud's passivity and weakness was a bit of an issue with me, too, but I couldn't quite figure out how to fix it because I couldn't quite identify what trooper-Cloud's... spark... or distinguishing characteristic was. But after the Great Nibelheim Plotbunny spawned (aka insane!possessive!Seph), so many plot points began to fall into place in the COIverse.

So original-Cloud basically uses himself as a sacrificial shield to hide and protect the last remains of the person he truly cares about (and unfortunately killed) from insane!Sephiroth.

I hope Cloud and Zack's personalities continue to merge, personally. I think there are good things about Cloud that Zack doesn't have too.

I think Cloud does have something that Zack doesn't have. Zack never had that much of an idealistic streak -- his world tended to break down into HIS people and other people. Cloud, on the other hand, does have this idealistic, romantic streak. Somewhere deep in Cloud's psyche was the desire to make the world better.

(Though I'd like to see some of your Zack's flaws. That would be fun too!)

Zack's flaws are somewhat hard to articulate because unlike Cloud's, they're rather subtle. I suppose his strong sociopathic streak could be considered a flaw. Weirdly, I tend to think of COI-Zack as being, at his core, a very feral, animalistic sort of personality. ^_^;;;

You see, here's a scary thought. If Sephiroth hadn't gone blatantly insane in Nibelheim due to outside influences, but instead wanted to take over the world on his own initiative, I think Zack would have pretty much gone along with it of his own free will without too many qualms (e.g., because it was the best or most feasible way to ensure Sephiroth's safety and freedom, etc.). Because for Zack, Sephiroth's well-being trumps everything else.

And Strife needs smacked. Badly.

Yes, Strife is a pissy nasty bastard who needs a good whacking. Fortunately, Sephiroth will be more than happy to oblige. ^_-

Can I drop a grand piano on him, please?

Unfortunately, being a super-SOLDIER, I don't think it'll do much. Pooh.

A good thing for the world, especially considering Zauld isn't just a SOLDIER but a super SOLDIER.

Because for Zack, Sephiroth's well-being trumps everything else. That's pretty common for most Zacks, I think. An interesting common theme. And I almost wish I could see an AU where this happened, except then poor Cloud would still be powerless and *wibble*

I hope this doesn't involve too much Cloud (what little there is left) smacking at the same time. :( *snuggles The Cloud* I am so tempted to kidnap him and put him someplace happy.

Can I sic all 13 members of Organization 13 on him at once instead then?

A good thing for the world, especially considering Zauld isn't just a SOLDIER but a super SOLDIER.

Zauld? ::rolls:: Personally, I think Zack!Cloud sounds a little better.

Speaking of super-SOLDIERs, I have this mental image of the surviving Shinra senior executives being obnoxious and obstructive to Reeve because their greed and selfishness... and then through the door walks Sephiroth, Cloud, and Rufus. Yup, probably the three most powerful people on the damn Planet, each with glowing mako eyes and EACH with the ability to level Shinra Tower single-handed. Yes, Rufus, too. ::evil cackle::

I've got another mental picture of Rufus telling a WEAPON to go fetch... and the WEAPON does it. And I can just imagine Reno's expression at this. ::snerk::

As you can guess, I've got PLANS for poor Rufus, and he's not going to be happy about it.

Rufus: "No, I'm NOT hearing strange voices in my head!"
Sephiroth: "It's not exactly a unique condition in present company."
Cloud: "Yeah, join the club." (gesturing to himself and Seph)

That's pretty common for most Zacks, I think. An interesting common theme.

I think it's so common because loyalty is one of Zack's defining traits, certainly in fanfics. A Zack torn between conflicting loyalties is fine, but a disloyal Zack is not really Zack, IMHO.

And I almost wish I could see an AU where this happened, except then poor Cloud would still be powerless and *wibble*

STOP THAT!!! ::hastily whaps spawning plotbunny with super-flyswatter::

I hope this doesn't involve too much Cloud (what little there is left) smacking at the same time. :( *snuggles The Cloud* I am so tempted to kidnap him and put him someplace happy.

Hopefully Seph will realizes that Cloud has really become an integral part of Zack. ^_^

Can I sic all 13 members of Organization 13 on him at once instead then?

Sure, why not. ^_-

Well, I was trying Cloack, but that sounds too much like "Quack" which well...

...might be more appropriate, anyway.

Hm. It'll be interesting to see how you handle the Rufus thing. You're walking a delicate balance with him.

HEY but maybe then some of the scientists could find out about Cloud anyway and make him into a Super SOLDIER to use him against Sephiroth and Zack because they're not so happy about it, but perhaps the Jenova thing backfires and Cloud joins them anyway?

Scientists: Well, doesn't that go figure. *goes off to drink at the bar*

Because Ruler of the World Sephiroth would rock so much.

*SICS ORG 13 on them*

Strife: ...oh my god. It's like...Mini-Cloud. *pokes 13 then goes ballistic on him*

Zack's Nobody Axel: OH NO YOU DON'T. BURN.

I'll keep that in mind. ^_- The Rufus subplot ws inspired by Rufus' statements and actions in Advent Children, in which he acknowledges the power and role of the Lifestream. ::innocent whistle::

...this almost makes me think of the Strife Follows ShinRa bunny that I'll probably never write because I'm not so great at writing Cold!Sarcasm!Turk-like Cloud.

Ah well, one epic at a time, anyway.

And one would wonder if Seph did take over the world by his own choice...would he ever meet Jenova? Would Aeris have to die? What would happen to Hojo? I doubt that would be someone he would necessarily want to keep around.

::hiding heads::

*takes a minute to get that then laughs* GET UP ON THE HYDRA'S BACK!

No... Mini!Cloud would be Sora, which would make Roxas more like... Mini!Strife?

Still, I totally suport burnination by Axel.

I'll be interested to see your characterzation of Rufus. For playing such a small role, he was one of my favorite characters in the game. I've never thought he was such an awful person, really. (And for some odd reason he's always struck me as being rather shy on an intrapersonal level, when it's not business related.... don't know why.)

But man, it'd SUCK having all that power given (or forced, depending on your perspective) and then not really knowing what to do with it or how to control it...

Huh. Wonder how Zack and Sephiroth got on with Rufus. *ponders* What do you think?

(And for some odd reason he's always struck me as being rather shy on an intrapersonal level, when it's not business related.... don't know why.)

I think I became mildly obsessed with Rufus after Advent Children. ^_^ I don't think he's awful, but a product of a not-so-nurturing environment.

Rufus strikes me as being a ruthlessly pragmatic guy (at least on the surface), which makes sense since I'm sure both his family life and the corporate life are hell on ideals. He's also probably quite a control freak, equating control with security, which in turn makes him extremely manipulative of the people around him.

But at the same time, from the game, even Barret admits that Rufus has courage and determination, and the willingness to fight for what he considers important. And there are also subtle hints that Rufus does seem to have ideals or dreams that he keeps well hidden, perhaps even from himself.

But man, it'd SUCK having all that power given (or forced, depending on your perspective) and then not really knowing what to do with it or how to control it...

Well, I think Rufus is a rather independent-minded type of person who wants power, but only on his own terms and through his own efforts, because that way, he has more control of those powers. And yes, it is going to suck for Rufus in COI, because he's going to get powers that he barely understands, can't really control, and never asked for.

In a lot of fanfics, you see Cloud being the Chosen or the Protector of the Planet (one of my absolute favorites is "A Long, Hard Road" by Twig). Well, if Cloud resents that role, can you imagine how Rufus would feel if he gets saddled with that job?

I mean, at least Cloud knows what it's like to not be in control, especially of his own mind and body. Compare that to poor Rufus, who is accustomed being very much in control of things (one way or another), and probably most importantly in control of himself and his own mind. ::evil grin::

Huh. Wonder how Zack and Sephiroth got on with Rufus. *ponders* What do you think?

I imagine that Rufus and Sephiroth managed to deal with each other in a cool, but professional manner. As for Zack, he can get along with nearly damn well anybody, especially people he likes. And in COI, he does like Rufus, because Rufus reminds him of Sephiroth. But I imagine that he's playing it a bit quiet because he doesn't really want Rufus connecting Zack with Kary (aka fem!Zack). As for COI-Rufus, Zack is a bit confusing because he seems damnably familiar -- maybe Kary's Zack's sister or cousin?^_-
