The achievements of his Zack reflect back upon him?

It's like you have a dog that you particularly cherish -- you love him regardless, but it's a big ego boost to know that your dog is smarter, faster, and/or better at doing certain tasks.

So, I really liked the interaction between Zack and some of the non-solider SHINRA fighters. It's interesting, the dynamic that occurs between him and others. Ad I really like the fact that Zack seems to be comfortably in charge. I wonder, if Zack had been his direction superior if Cloud would have been ok, rather than the guy he ended up with. I don't think Zack would tolerate much infighting from his people.

Oh, Zack is very good at handling people, whether superiors, equals, or subordinates. Unfortunately, in COI, the SOLDIERs and regular army have fairly separate lines of commands. So the regular army guys like Cloud usually aren't under the command of a SOLDIER, except on actual missions. And on some missions, they would be under the command of an regular army officer, who in turn reports to the SOLDIER.

so, Fido can smell them, but little old CLoud can't. That's interesting! I'd never thought of that before. I bet they hate candles and Air fresheners! Would strong scents give them headaches or just cause for frustration?

Even for dogs, the smell would be fainter and harder to detect. And yes, most SOLDIERs don't particularly like strong scents, although it is less of a problem for the Third Classes, whose senses are less enhanced than the Seconds, whose senses are less acute than the Firsts, with Sephiroth's senses being significantly sharper than the Firsts. As for the Firsts and Sephiroth, they just learn how to cope with it.

And if a Second Class has problems coping with his enhanced senses, he's not going to qualify to become a First.
