Ooooooooooooooooooh boy!

You know, up until this, I haven't been sure that Sephiroth and Zack's friendship was anything more than just friendship. It's nice to finally have confirmation that it is more - even if it's curtesy of Strike's foul mouth.

As for Strife, he really does have a warped idea of how the world is. I got the idea that Zack really didn't know anything about the transfer of his personality - his soul - into Cloud Strife's body and now that he is there he's only just starting to wake up (something Sephiroth said to him).

Anyhow... ^_^

Maybe I misinterpretted, but I don't think that's what Strife had meant. The line that I took to be confirmation of a romantic relationship between Sephiroth and Zack was the very succinct line of "Zack is mine". The other ranting, I believe, was Strife going off about how Cloud was dreaming of those things between himself and Sephiroth, wishing for them, and that's why Strife was so pissed. Strife was the one that avenged Cloud's mother and town after Sephiroth destroyed it. He's acting out in vengence of jealousy and resentment of Cloud completely ignoring him and pushing him away. It could be viewed that Strife is another jealous lover seeking the same thing from Cloud as Cloud seeks from another.

But I could be wrong. >.>

The context I get from that part makes it seem to me that Strife is talking about Zack's memories and feelings, not Cloud's.

It does have that quality to it as well. However, in retrospect, it feels as if it is quite possibly what both Zack and Cloud feel. After all, when Cloud throws the mug at Tifa, it is in a jealous 'stay out of my way/business' manner, I think, and leave me alone (with him). I feel as if Strife is twice vexed by the double stand against him in that regard. XD But like I said, not being the author or in any way intimately familiar with her, weight cannot be given to my views.

This may or may not be a confirmation of a romantic relationship between Sephiroth and Zack, but it definitely represents a possessive interest on Sephiroth's part. But I think you guys might have a good idea when possessiveness runs amok. ::drumbeat of doom::

It's the Zack-part of Cloud (because at this point, they're very deeply intermeshed) that was dreaming of more pleasant times gone by. And considering how much Strife hates and fears Sephiroth, it must be almost unbearable.

Afraid not. ^_^; It isn't clear exactly who defeated Sephiroth back at Nibelheim (Zack or original Cloud), but it definitely wasn't Strife. Although I'm sure that Strife enjoys taking credit for doing so.

Maybe Strife felt something for Cloud long ago, but that feeling (if it ever existed) is long gone. Strife was originally a part of the original Cloud, spun off to cope with the things Cloud couldn't deal with himself. So basically Strife was dumped with all sorts of abuse and painful crap, and it's no wonder he develops a serious resentment to his creator. He doesn't want a relationship with Cloud -- Strife wants to wholly supplant Cloud.

You're right. Zack didn't know what was going on. The scientists made considerable efforts to keep Zack from knowing about this mental invasion. As for why he didn't realize it from Cloud's behavior (assuming that they had contact toward the latter part of the Nibelheim years), there's a whole variety of possible reasons. Cloud may have been incapable of only the most rudimentary physical responses, Cloud may have had mental black outs, etc.

But Zack was definitely a wholly innocent party in the experiment. The sad thing being that the more he tried to help Cloud (by talking to him, etc.) the worse it got for Cloud.
