I don't need this crap right now!

It appears that the directory on my computer's internal hard drive has decided to go seriously 'KA-PUT'.

This, you should understand, is == A VERY BAD THING ==.

The good news - First and foremost, all my fanfics (especially the works-in-progress) are safe. Fortunately, I had just burned a full copy of them on a CD prior to Otakon, and I had multiple copies of my most current COI snippet(s). ^_^;;;; Also, I have multiple external hard drives so most of my data files are untouched.

The okay news - I can recover or have backups of my most important files (e.g., the website, my music, various inventory lists, etc.) There are things that I did lose, but nothing (I think) absolutely essential or irreplaceable.

The bad news - I haven't had much luck recovering data or repairing the hard disk directory using a variety of utilities. So unless I feel desperate enough to pay someone for data recovery, what's gone is probably gone. -_-

The monumental pain-in-the-ass news - I'm going to have to reinstall about 80% of my application software, along with the associated re-entering serial numbers and activation codes, resetting preferences, etc., etc., not to mention having to totally reorganize my music library. Fortunately, being a compulsive packrat (both virtually and physically), I have all the installation discs and downloads. It's just going to be so damn TEDIOUS. ::moan::

And of course this had to happen just as I was getting back into the swing of writing AND at the end of the fiscal year, which is normally a stressful time at work, but which is doubly so because the (unprintable) management decided to implement a whole slew of (HA!) 'quality control' procedures which naturally eats up everyone's time and has put a hell of a dent in my productivity. And the managment is making everyone at work jump through these damn hoops even though it's a few certain (expletive deleted) individuals made the vast majority of the mistakes! ::snarl::

::grabs for yarn and starts knitting ferociously::
